How it all started...
Our Story: A Legacy of Worship and Service
First Baptist Church of Darlington was founded on April 23, 1831, when a small group of believers gathered to establish a place of worship and community. Over the years, God has grown this congregation from nine faithful members to a thriving church dedicated to both spiritual growth and service.
Originally named Darlington Baptist Church of Christ, we became First Baptist Church of Darlington in 1912. Our commitment to worship and outreach has remained steadfast, even through challenges such as the 1935 fire that damaged our sanctuary and the 1984 storm that took down our steeple. God has provided in every season, guiding our church forward in faith.
A Church on Mission
From our earliest days, missions and outreach have been at the heart of First Baptist. We have licensed and ordained more than 21 members into ministry and supported mission work locally and globally. In 1866, many members helped establish Macedonia Baptist Church, creating new opportunities for worship in our community. In 1959, we planted a mission in Mont Clare, providing resources and support as it grew into an independent church.
Our commitment to serving others continues today through:
•Vacation Bible School (since 1938), equipping children with biblical truth
•Local outreach through ministries like The Lord Cares, Raceway Ministry, and the Free Medical Clinic
•Global impact through Operation Christmas Child and mission partnerships
•Disaster relief, such as opening our campus to Cain Elementary School after the 2010 tornado

A Place to Grow in Faith
At First Baptist, we believe in spiritual formation for all generations. Over the years, we have hosted Bible studies, discipleship courses, and ministries for children, youth, and adults to deepen faith and build strong community connections. Our Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) has played a key role in mobilizing the church for service.
We continue to grow and adapt, ensuring that worship, fellowship, and ministry remain central to everything we do. Whether through Wednesday night meals, small group studies, or community service, we seek to be Christ's hands and feet in Darlington.
