LOCAL MISSIONS.

Darlington Soup Kitchen

Lisa Wiley
The Darlington Soup Kitchen is held every Saturday on Broad Street near the Railroad Tracks by a group of local churches. First Baptist Church serves in rotation with this community of church families about once a quarter. Each church is asked to serve a hot breakfast (to-go) to any individual who comes. During our turn to serve we ask for help to serve, monetary donations and breakfast/snack items to provide with the meal.

The Lord Cares

Pastor Brian Sherwood
The Lord Cares was formed to have a central location for residents of Darlington, Lamar and Society Hill to receive help with food, assistance with utility bills, and other needs at a central location rather than going to church to church. The ministry is 100% volunteer, with no paid staff, and operates entirely upon donations community members and businesses. To donate to TLC, send contributions to: The Lord Cares, 201 Grove Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

Free Medical Clinic

Pastor Brian Sherwood
The Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County is an interdenominational Christian ministry which provides free medical care, medications, and pastoral support to Darlington County residents who are ineligible for Medicaid, who are without the financial resources to afford such care, and/or who have no medical insurance. Find out more about how to volunteer or contribute to the needs for the Free Medical Clinic.

Pate Elementary School

Pastor Brian Sherwood
Every Church in the SC Baptist Convention has been challenged to adopt a local school in their area to love on, pray for and serve faithfully. Our Church has adopted Pate Elementary School in Darlington. We collect book bags and school supplies for them annually and then support teachers with care packages and snacks on occasion. Our members are encouraged to go in and read to the school kids when able.

ON-GOING MISSIONS.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Tina Mahoney
FBC has a heart for the Shoebox Ministry through Samaritan's Purse. We spend all year collecting items for the annual packing party held in November. Members are encouraged to pack a shoebox of their own and then come to help pack extra boxes. Before sending the shoeboxes around the world we dedicate them to the Lord in a special prayer time during worship. In 2020, FBC sent over 800 shoeboxes to the Charlotte Processing Center to be shipped around the world along with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Carolina Kid's Closet - Hunger Buster

Donna Segars
The Darlington County School District has partnered with an organization called "Carolina Kids Closet" that provides food for our children in need in our community.  They are desperately in need of these items:
  • Pop Tarts [any flavor]
  • Granola Breakfast Bars
  • Peanut Butter Jars [any size]
They started filling 700+ bags for our community children on a weekly basis and they are unable to order these items anymore from their supplier. They are grateful for any donations for any of these items. There will be a basket or plastic tub in the back lobby by our church office you may put these items in. For more information, please contact Donna Segars.

Card Ministry

Gail Veale
Getting a note in the mail is such a sweet surprise especially to those who might be homebound or going through a valley in life. The Church provides cards and postage to anyone who would like to send special notes to our great members and those who we should outreach to with the hope and love of Jesus. Need an address or a list of people to write to? Stop by the Church Office or contact Gail Veale.

Prison Packets

Dorothy Sherwood
The Welsh Neck Baptist Association asks the local churches to pack gallon ziploc bags with supplies to be sent to the prisons during Christmas time for them to have some basic hygiene items and stationary to write to their loved ones. These bags can be brought to the Church during mid-October through the end of November.
